Manga Review: Strobe Edge by Io Sakisaka

This manga is brilliant.

...and I'm not being sarcastic about it or anything. This time, I really mean it. This manga is everything I ever wanted this story to be... and more. I didn't really plan on finishing all 10 volumes in one sitting but I just did... and I can't stop myself from thinking about it. It's really good to the point that I'm still reeling inside.

I know the plot is not that original anymore and that it has been used time and again. I had my doubts when I first read the summary. I guess, the summary didn't give this book much justice because the summary is NOTHING compared to the story. It has the right amount of depth in it. I really liked it a lot because unlike the other shoujo mangas out there, the characters were never forced to act in a certain way. It felt like it was meticulously planned... and it is perfect in its own way.

One thing is certain, this manga perfectly executed the characters well. I DIG character development.

This shoujo is definitely one of the top on my list.

If you enjoy reading shoujo manga, I definitely recommend this series. You won't be disappointed.

I won't dwell on the details much but don't judge this book by the summary. I really hate the summary.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
Status: Completed.

Summary (wiki):
15-year-old Ninako Kinoshita has never been in love until an encounter on the train with her school's most popular boy, the quiet Ren Ichinose. As she grows closer to Ren, she falls in love with him, but must learn to cope with the unfortunate fact that Ren already has a longtime girlfriend.

Recommended for Kimi Ni Todoke fans.

1. SKIP-BEAT! (スキップ。ビト!)

Skip-beat is a popular shoujo manga by Yoshiki Nakamura.

Synopsis (via wiki): It is the story of Kyoko Mogami a 16-year-old girl who discovers that her childhood friend and romantic goal, Sho Fuwa, only keeps her around to act as a maid and earn his living expenses, as he works his way to become the top pop idol in Japan. Furious and heart broken, she vows to get revenge by beating him in show business.

Personal Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

I've been following this manga ever since day 1. I really like the story and the pacing. The characters are also very likable. You guys have to read it. The manga is way better than the drama adaptation (extravagant challenge). If I were you, if you prefer watching instead of reading, watch the ANIME version.

2. Kimi ni todoke: From Me to You (君に届け, lit. Reaching You)

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You is a romance shōjo manga by Karuho Shiina.

Synopsis (via wiki): Sawako Kuronuma, called The Ring, has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance. There are rumors that Sawako can see ghosts and curse people. However, despite her appearances, she is a sweet and timid girl who longs to be able to make friends with everyone and be liked by everyone else. When her idol, popular boy Kazehaya, begins talking with her, everything changes. She finds herself in a new world, trying to make friends and talking to different people and she can't thank Kazehaya enough for giving her these opportunities. Slowly, but surely, a sweet love blossoms between the two as they overcome circumstances and obstacles that stand in their way.

Personal Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!

This manga is highly entertaining. I love the humor and the storytelling. It's also very relatable. If you like the idea of true love, then this manga is definitely for you. There's also an anime adaptation.

3. Dengeki Daisy (電撃デイジー)

Dengeki Daisy is a shoujo rom-com manga by Kyousuke Motomi.

Synopsis (via wiki): When Teru's older brother died, she was left with little more than a cell phone containing the text-address of an elusive character named DAISY, who Teru's brother had told her would "support her when he was no longer able to." DAISY became Teru's pillar of strength, over the next few years as he sent her encouraging words through his phone, whether inspiring or mere chatter, as she faces her life alone.
One afternoon, after bullies from the student council are mysteriously driven away, Teru accidentally breaks a school window, which results in her working for the grouchy, cruel school janitor named Tasuku Kurosaki. As Teru begins working for the unlikable school janitor, her feelings begin to surpass that of master and servant and she begins to question DAISY's true identity. Could Kurosaki be her beloved DAISY? Meanwhile, Kurosaki is finding himself steadily drawn to Teru. Will he "reach out" to her?

Personal Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!

This manga feels more like an action drama than a manga. It has a lot of mystery to keep you guessing and a lot of shady characters to keep you asking for more. I'm praying for a live-action version for this one.

4. Love so life

Love so life is a feel good shoujo manga by Kouichi Kaede. Synopsis (via animelist): Shiharu is a high school student who loves kids, lives in an orphanage, and works at a daycare... Until the handsome uncle of two-year-old twins offers her a raise if she'll be their babysitter. Often relying on memories of her mother's actions for guidance, Shiharu quickly finds herself falling in love with her new makeshift family.

Personal Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars! This manga has too much heart. You'll really love the characters after every chapter. If you like anime such as daa! daa! daa! a.k.a. Ufo Baby, then this manga is for you! I hope they make an anime version soon!

5. Akagami no Shirayukihime (Red haired Snow White)

Akagami no Shirayukihime is a fantasy shoujo manga by Akizuki Sorata.

Synopsis (via animelist): Shirayuki was a young girl born with unique apple-red hair. She meets a famous but foolish Prince Raji, who falls in love with her at first sight and orders her to become his concubine. With nowhere else to go, Shirayuki cuts her hair and escapes to a neighboring country. While traversing through the forests, she meets a young boy, Zen, who helps her after she boldly cures his wounds but then gets poisoned by an apple given to Shirayuki. Meanwhile, Prince Raji sends out henchmen to search for her. What will happen to Shirayuki? What is Zen’s true character? A refreshing fantasy story between an optimistic heroine and a prince who constantly stays on her watch.

Personal Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!

I'm a huge fan of fantasy and this manga didn't disappoint. I love the way they twisted the fairy tale. I also like the way it was drawn so that's a huge plus for me. If you're into Card Captor Sakura, then you'll probably enjoy this as well. It has the same vibe.

LUPIN the III Live-action movie

I just heard that there will be a live action adaptation of the anime, LUPIN III.

If the rumors are true, they're thinking of casting OGURI SHUN as Lupin and Sawajiri Erika as Fujiko Mine.

I'm really intrigue with this lineup. I'm kinda hoping the rumors are true. I really enjoyed reading the manga. :)
